Corin's Chronicle: The Revenge Chronicles Fantasy Series

Corin’s Chronicle is an adjunct to the Revenge Chronicles Fantasy Series, sitting something astern to the collection and yet theless a vital ingredient of what has taken place in Temples of a Fantasy Revenge; a reflection if you like from the mirror in the Tower of the Winds (or Tower of Tud) to which Corin bends her steps in the course of this short piece.

Corin herself is out for revenge – her family of Diplomats have been murdered by a band of Aggressors and our heroine has avenged herself by slaughtering their leader. Unfortunately, this means she is now bound for Torment, and her subsequent behaviour seemingly only intensifies the rapidity with which she is to be escorted there by Rhythm, and the Plague which inexorably follows upon that life force.

Not even Thrackan, god of war, and his machinations against Thera seem to be able to stop matters in this regard. Thrackan’s fed up to the back teeth with Basturbal, the lord of darkness who carries Plague, Rhythm and Torment all before him each time he encroaches on the mainland; last time this happened, there was a huge battle on Shadyridge in which Ingot saved the day as advised by Saman, and we all know what happened to him because we’ve all read his book in the series beforehand!

But don’t worry if not, because Corin’s about to relive the whole affair. At a distance, well in Rathe anyway, and in the mirror of Tud she’ll be so blown over by watching the fight that in her swearing and oathing she’ll awaken the Sorcerer, the Wizard and the Necromancer from their slumber in the Vale of Darkness. Their appearances and advice given will start to make Corin question everything she’s ever been taught, maybe even altering her perception on Inertia and the horrifying possibility that Torment may not be real (though the Vale of Darkness definitely is…)

But you can’t summon magicians and mages without raising fantasy monsters, and Mordron, the keeper of the tower is a particularly bloodthirsty creature who seems to be out for revenge on anyone and anything that comes anywhere near him. Legend has it he rose from the river Sepui and fashioned the Pagos Stone which is currently showing Shifters and Trustles heading up to Shadyridge at breakneck speed. Only no one’s looking in it right now which makes the whole exercise a bit redundant!

So Corin’s off to join the fray, via the Harp and Orange public house, the library which houses the Books of Lore and other old relics like Cedric, the village which is still geared up for Halloween, the hill, the Vale and the lake, back where this all started all that time ago with a frightened and confused little girl wondering, along with her parents, why she wasn’t cold when she fell in the freezing water. Is it all fantasy? An illusion? Is revenge redundant, and are chronicles worth, well, chronicling? Yours be the decision my hallowed reader…
